Getting to HHN, Germany from Frankfurt, Mainz, Trier, and Luxembourg
Buses, but no trains, travel from Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) with its famously cheap flights to Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Heidelberg, Mainz, Koblenz, Trier, and Luxemburg.
For updated information on airport shuttle bus services see Transportation to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN).
Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) is far from the city Frankfurt am Main in Western Germany close to Trier and Luxembourg. Local budget travelers generally drive to the airport but most foreigners have to use a bus as no train service is available. Bus tickets can cost more than the low airfare before taxes and surcharges and the bus rides are often longer than the cheap flights to and from HHN. Fortunately, many bus services are available for travel to and from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. Taxi2Airport provides online quotations for taxi and minibus transfers but usually long distances translate into high prices too.
The follow is worth noting regarding bus transfers to and from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN):
- Children often qualify for reduced fares (or even travel for free).
- Surcharges are common for bulky luggage and sports equipment.
- Reservations are not possible for individuals, except for the service to Luxembourg, but often compulsory for groups of 5 or more.
- Tickets generally are bought directly from the driver – only cash in euro accepted – or ticket counters at Hahn Airport.

Driving to and from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is often a sensible alternative to buses to compliment cheap flights to numerous European destinations. Car rental desks are plentiful at Frankfurt-Hahn airport but car hire is best reserved in advance. The Mosel region is a pleasure to drive in making a rental car a good idea for travelers not heading towards a major city.
