Visit Schloss Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, and Linderhof Castles
Füssen in Bavaria is a good transit town when visiting Schwangau (Schloss Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau Castles) or nearby Linderhof, the Wieskirche, Ettal, and Oberammergau.

Füssen and Schwangau in the beautiful Bavarian Allgäu region are amongst the most popular holiday destinations in Germany. Vacationers enjoy the numerous outdoor activities but the huge number of day-trippers from Munich (München) comes mostly to see the Disney-like Schloss Neuschwanstein and nearby Hohenschwangau castles. Most travelers transit via Füssen, which is the final stop of the Romantic Road.

Opening Hours, Tickets, and Transportation to King Ludwig’s Palace
Schloss Linderhof is a popular day-trip from Munich with easy transportation, long opening hours, and easiest ticket availability of Bavarian King Ludwig’s fantasy castles.

Schloss Linderhof Palace is located in the Ammer Valley near Oberammergau and Ettal. It is a popular day-trip destination from Munich and can be combined with visiting the more famous and popular Disney-like Schloss Neuschwanstein Castle. Opening hours are long and the palace is open on Monday and most public holidays. The park is unfenced and tickets for the palace itself are fairly easy to obtain. Transportation to Schloss Linderhof is easiest by car but buses are also available.
A hotel and restaurant are located at Linderhof Park with many further options available in nearby Ettal and Oberammergau.

Bavarian King Ludwig’s Palace and Gardens near Oberammergau
Schloss Linderhof, a fantasy castle of Bavarian King Ludwig, is a small, opulent palace in a park with fountains and grotto near Oberammergau and Ettal in the Alps in Germany.

Schloss Linderhof is the smallest of the opulent palaces and castles built by Bavarian Mad King Ludwig II. It is the only of his fantasy castles that was mostly completed. The more famous Disney-like Schloss Neuschwanstein Castle and Versailles-inspired Herrenchiemsee Palace were both far from completion at the time of Ludwig’s mysterious death in 1886.

By Car, Train, or Bus to Bavaria’s Passion Play Town
Getting to Oberammergau at the Bavarian Alps in Germany is easy by car, train, or bus. Trains run to Munich while local buses go to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Ettal.

Transportation to Oberammergau is easy both by car and by public transportation. Depending on the point of origin, trains, buses or a combination of trains and buses provide the easiest access to Oberammergau. Local trains and buses can be very cheap if the Bayern Ticket savings fare of the German Railways is used.
