Lufthansa-Owned Lufthansa Italia Based at Milano-Malpensa Airport (MXP)
Lufthansa owns several non-German airlines but Lufthansa Italia is the first time that the German airline has started its own new airline in a foreign country and adding its own well-respected name to the new carrier name en plus. After the dramas of Alitalia in recent years, business and leisure travelers alike would be happy to know flights are available on a hopefully more reliable Italian airline.
Lufthansa Italia will not be a low-cost airline, although special rates of €99 return competes well with traditional budget airline fares. Lufthansa Italia will be a full-service airline serving Italian food for free on all flights and allowing the standard one checked suitcase at no additional fee. Lufthansa Italia will use Airbus A319 planes with 138 seats in a two-class configuration.
