VW Golf Remains Europe’s Favorite Car followed by Fiesta

The Volkswagen Golf easily remained Europe’s favorite car with the Ford Fiesta second on the top ten list of best-selling cars in Europe in 2009.

In 2009, for the second consecutive year, the Volkswagen Golf was the top selling car in Europe. The VW Golf was followed on the list of the 10 best-selling passenger vehicles in Europe in 2009 by the Ford Fiesta and the Peugeot 207. New passenger car registrations were down 1.6% in Europe in 2009 for a total of 14,481,545 cars registered in Europe in 2009. Volkswagen was the top brand and top motorcar manufacturing group in Europe in 2009 with a market share of 21.1%.

The Volkswagen Golf remained the best-selling car in Europe in 2009. The Golf (including the Golf Plus and Jetta) was also the top seller in Europe in 2008. VW sold 571,838 Golfs in Europe in 2009, 24% more than in 2008.

Ford Fiesta – Second Most-Sold Car in Europe in 2009

The Ford Fiesta became the second most-sold car in Europe in 2009. Ford’s sporty-looking Fiesta increased sales by 44% to 472,091 Fiestas sold throughout Europe in 2009.

Peugeot 207 – Third Best-Selling Car in Europe in 2009

The Peugeot 207 continues to slide in the popularity stakes and was the third most-sold car in Europe in 2009. Peugeot sold 367,160 207s in Europe in 2009 – 10% less than in 2008.

Opel / Vauxhall Corsa – Fourth Most-Sold Car in Europe in 2009

The Opel (Vauxhall in the UK) Corsa was the fourth most popular car in Europe in 2009. Opel sold 351,807 Corsas in Europe in 2009, a decrease of 2.5%.

Fiat Punto – Fifth Most-Bought Car in Europe in 2009

The Fiat Punto saw sales improve by 16 percent in 2009. Fiat sold 323,536 Punto in Europe in 2009.

Renault Clio – Sixth on the Top Selling Cars List in Europe in 2009

The Renault Clio was the sixth most-sold car in Europe in 2009 despite a decline of 7% in sales. Renault sold 312,925 Clios in Europe in 2009.

Ford Focus – Seventh on the Best-Seller List in Europe in 2009

The Ford Focus was the seventh most-bought car in Europe in 2009. Focus sales slipped 15% to 309,134 cars sold in 2009.

Fiat Panda – Eighth Most-Sold Car in Europe in 2009

The Fiat Panda gained from car scrapping programs to increase sales by 34% to gain eighth place on the best-selling cars list in 2009. Fiat sold 298,914 Pandas in Europe in 2009.

The Opel (Vauxhall in Great Britain) Astra continue to struggle with sales declining 14% but still good enough for the final place on the list of top selling cars in Europe in 2009. In 2009, 275,638 Astras were sold in Europe.

    Thanks for publishing european top ten of car sales. But why only top ten? It would be so interesting to have informations about top 20 or top 50 in order to see, what is happening with larger cars and so on.
