Unsurprisingly, in 2009, the Volkswagen Golf was again the most popular car model in Germany. Germany’s favorite car, the VW Golf with Golf Plus and Jetta derivatives, sold more cars than the second (VW Polo), third (Opel Corsa), and fourth (Opel Astra) combined. In 2009, small cars were the best sellers while the more expensive Audi, BMW, Mercedes and VW Passat car models slipped down the list. Small cars benefited the most of Germany’s Abwrackprämie (Cash-for-Clunkers Scheme)
