Novotel Beaune: Review of the Family-Friendly Hotel with Swimming Pool

September 7, 2010 by Henk Bekker in Burgundy, France

The Novotel Beaune is a midscale three-star hotel with swimming pool and comfortable family-friendly bedrooms that sleep up to four guests in Burgundy, France.

The Novotel Beaune is a family-friendly, midscale hotel in the outskirts of Beaune with easy access by car to both the historic old town as well as on nearby highways to the vineyards of Burgundy and the rest of France. Both business travelers and families enjoy the comfort of this modern three-star hotel. Two children under 16 may stay for free with parents, enjoy breakfast for free, or may book a second room at a cheaper rate. The Novotel Beaune has an outdoor swimming pool freely available to all guests. Overnight parking is free.

Novotel Beaune Hotel with Swimming Pool in Bourgogne, France

The Novotel Beaune is a typical French Novotel three-star hotel – modern, clean, and comfortable with professional multilingual staff. The Novotel group mainly aims at business travelers but over weekends and during vacations, families can enjoy the same modern facilities at bargain prices.

The Novotel Beaune is in a modern five-story building located in the eastern outskirts of Beaune near the conference center with easy access to major highways. The hotel is quietly located in a park-like area. An outdoor swimming pool for guest use is available for free.

Family-Friendly Bedrooms in the Novotel Beaune, France

The Novotel Beaune has modern, comfortable bedrooms that can sleep up to four guests. Most of the rooms feature the most modern Novotel layout with light-colored wood and inoffensive shades of grey.

The bedrooms have a comfortable double bed with white duvets. Up to four can sleep in most rooms with a sofa folding out to form the third and fourth single beds. These single beds use standard sheets and a blanket rather than the soft duvet used on the double bed. These single beds are reasonably comfortable for children but heavier adults may find the mattresses a bit thin.

As with most Novotel hotel bedrooms, the Novotel Beaune has the toilet in a separate room (but without a washing basin) from the main bathroom. The bathrooms are mostly white and well lit. Ample toiletries and sufficient towels for a family of four are available.

Most rooms have a minibar and tea / coffee making facilities. All rooms have individually adjustable air conditioning and windows that can open.

Facilities at the Novotel Beaune Hotel in Burgundy, France

A computer with internet access is available in the lobby for guests use while wifi is currently available for free in all bedrooms. (Previously, a reasonably-priced Orange package deal was required but accessible throughout France.)

In addition to a games console, children may borrow books and some toys too for play at the reception area. Small children also receive a soft toy at check in.

Restaurants at the Novotel Beaune Hotel in Bourgogne, France

The hotel has a small restaurant, café and bar. Novotel hotels in France use a standard menu, which changes from season to season. The food is a bid bland for French cuisine but most diners will be able to find something suitable when not in the mood for going out for dinner. Special children’s menus are available.

The breakfast buffet is a decent spread and at €14 good value for families as children under 16 may eat breakfast for free with their parents. Breakfast is often included or available for very low prices for fixed reservations paid in advance.

Location of the Novotel Beaune Hotel in Burgundy, France

The Novotel Beaune hotel is conveniently located for drivers just off the Beaune / Hospices exit from the Autoroute highway A6 (Paris to Lyon and beyond) near the interchange with the A31 and A36 to Dijon. The hotel has free parking.

The Novotel Beaune is around 2 km from the old town center of Beaune – it is an easy drive to major free parking lots such as Place Madeleine just outside the city wall of historic Beaune.

The Novotel Beaune is a very comfortable hotel and a good choice for both business and leisure travelers. Although it may be low on character, the hotel is high in comfort and convenience with very reasonable prices.

Room rates at the Novotel Beaune ranges from around €100 for advance and prepaid reservations to around €140 for unrestricted bookings. Special deals and breakfast included packages are often available with advance reservations, especially on weekends.

For drivers, the Novotel Dijon Sud is an alternative when the Novotel Beaune is fully booked. Although the Novotel Beaune is the more pleasant hotel, the Novotel Dijon Sud has similar comfort levels as well as similarly easy access to highways and the vineyards of the Côte-d’Or region.

It is worth using internet reservations services to compare what is available in a city but Novotel hotels are best booked directly on the Accor Hotel website. Accor guarantees the best rates with clear cancellation policies and no credit card charges (except for special deals payable in advance at time of booking).

Vermeer Exhibition in Amsterdam

The largest Vermeer exhibition ever is at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam from 10 February to 4 June 2023. Buy tickets online in advance — some dates are already sold out.

Book French Train and Bus Tickets

French railway tickets are available online from many resellers — Trainline is generally the simplest to use.

SNCF has several official websites: Oui.SNCF is the main site but visitors may be passed on to other SNCF sub-sites with many non-European-based users ending up at RailEurope sites that often sell only long-distance train tickets. Trainline and Omio are generally a lot easier to use and may include searches for competing buses, such as Flixbus, that are price and time competitive with trains on some popular routes. Also, try Ouigo for low-cost TGV trains — limited choice and routes but low prices.

Trainline and Omio also sell cross-border journeys and tickets for many other European countries. Mobile and print-at-home tickets are generally the best options, collecting tickets at the station is time-consuming. Tickets for short journeys and trains in urban areas (RER & Metro) are usually not sold online and installing apps for short visits is often more hassle than it is worth.
