The Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus Hotel in Germany

Rooms in the Novotel Freiburg am KonzerthausThe Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus is a modern hotel with just over 200 comfortable, well-appointed rooms. As with many other Novotel hotels in Germany, the Novotel Freiburg is a four-star hotel and slightly more upmarket than many Accor Novotel hotels in France.

Bedrooms in the Novotel Freiburg are fairly spacious, especially when used by only two guests and when the double fold-out sofa bed is folded back. Desk space is good with a separate reading lamp. Light wood furniture is used with a large number of drawers and closets for guests who like to unpack.

Windows can open for natural ventilation if preferred to the individually controlled air conditioning. The double-glazing keeps noise level to a minimum and even rooms facing the railway line and main road are pleasantly quiet.

The white bathrooms are spacious with high-quality fittings clearly from the Dorint origins of the hotel, rather than the standard Novotel modular fit. Glasses rather than plastic cups are used. The Novotel Freiburg is also not stingy with the towels or toiletries providing sufficient for four guests. All rooms have a large bath with overhead shower (and glass doors, which by no means could ever keep the floor dry). In-bathroom sound disappeared when the televisions were upgraded to flat screens.

Rooms have a mini fridge but no in-room safes or coffee-making facilities. Internet (wifi / cable) is charged for but a free PC with internet access and a printer is available in the lobby for guest use. (Freiburg has many free wifi spots.)

Family-Friendly Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus Hotel

Kids-Friendly Novotel Hotel Freiburg, GermanyThe Novotel Freiburg is surprisingly family-friendly for a modern hotel chain that mainly aims at business travelers. Two children may stay for free with parents in a room, while Accor also give around 50% discounts for families who prefer a second room for the children.

Children may also enjoy breakfast for free with their parents. The breakfast buffet is a decent spread but many cafés are available nearby with cheaper options. (The café just past the tram bridge en route to the station has long opening hours and does a decent take-out coffee.)

Children receive small toys at check in. Further toys, books, and a play station are available for play in the lobby.

The swimming pool in the wellness center is unfortunately rather small and the water not particularly warm. It is more part of the day spa than a real pool suitable for children.

Location of the Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus Hotel, Germany

Novotel Freiburg Christmas TreeThe Novotel Freiburg is part of the very modern Konzerthaus (concert hall) complex and thus a great place to stay in when attending concerts or other shows here. (Prices seem to move with major events.) The location is ideal for most travelers with excellent transportation connections and an easy walk to the town center.

The Novotel Freiburg is across the road from the Hauptbahnhof (man train station) with Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) train connections to Basel in Switzerland, Frankfurt, Baden-Baden, and nearby Strasbourg in France. The hotel also has its own private parking spaces with added security inside the train station parking garage (turn sharp right when entering the underground parking lot).

Rooms at the Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus hotel go for around €150 per night – more expensive when busy while bargains for below €100 are often available on quiet weekends. As with other German hotel rates, all taxes are included and no spa (Kur) taxes are applicable.
