Two slightly earlier works by Franz Marc are displayed next to the larger Tierschicksale. Two Cats, Blue and Yellow (Zwei Katzen, blau und gelb), 1912, and A Bison in Winter (The Red Bison) (Bison im Winter (Roter Bison)), 1913, are far more typical of the work by the most famous painter of the short-lived The Blue Rider movement. (The largest collection of Der Blaue Reiter paintings in the world is in the Lenbachhaus in Munich.)
