Santa Maria Novella

Nave of the Gothic Santa Maria Novella

The nave of the Gothic basilica of Santa Maria Novella in Florence is nearly 100 m long.

On the left, The Holy Trinity (1425-26) by Masaccio โ€” one of the earliest works to apply the rules of perspective to painting.

In the center, a huge 578 x 406 cm crucifix by Giotto โ€” an early work from around 1280 of tempura and gold painted on wood.
