MONET, BELLE-ILE
In 1886, Monet produced a series of 39 paintings of Belle-lle-en-Mer and its jagged coastline, paying particular attention to changes of light. The wave motif in the artist’s work reflects the influence of Japanese prints. Rodin, who was given this painting in exchange for a copy of Young Mother in the Grotto, exhibited with Monet in 1889 at the Galerie Georges Petit.
