1727 Bemalte Schuetzenscheibe in the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum in Schwäbisch Hall

A whole floor in the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum in Schwäbisch Hall is dedicated to the museum’s collection of around 200 painted target shooting shields (Bemalten Schützenscheiben) — the largest collection in Europe.

The oldest painted target is Venus with the cake buffet from 1727. It was made for Johann Georg Philipp Bohhöffer, a cake baker. Many older targets were presumably lost in the town fire of 1728.
