Het Putterje

The Goldfinch (Het puttertje) by Carel Fabritius

The most popular work with the Dutch in this room (and for many in the whole Mauritshuis museum) is the small The Goldfinch (Het puttertje) by Carel Fabritius. Only 12 of his paintings survived — he was killed and his workshop destroyed in 1654 when the gunpowder magazine in Delft exploded.
