The UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listed St John Monastery in Müstair viewed from the east. The church has three apses, as are common in Carolingian designs. The north annex has a further apse while the bell tower and rectangular chapel replaced the south annex that burnt down in the early 16th century. The white Planta Tower dates from 960 – the swallowtail merlons were added later.
