The prehistoric Bronze Age rock carvings in the Tanum UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site often depict people swinging weapons, especially spears and axes, around. However, actual scenes of fighting or violence, including a kill in hunting scenes, are very rare. These weapons, especially the axes, were probably for ceremonial purposes. 98% of the persons depicted were men – often shown with erect penises and weapons.
