“Robert Delaunay’s optical research on light and colour starting in 1910 built up to the monumental scenes that he and his wife Sonia created for the 1938 Salen des Tuileries.
Their works capture the vibrancy of modern life while pushing the boundaries of canvas and painting. In the same vein as the Bauhaus and the French Union of
Modern Artists, they contributed to the development of an art that had to accompany social progress and which, in order to be accessible to all, was based on the search for new esthetic forms. They thus came to develop the abstract and radiant esthetic that would ultimately characterise them.”
