The Markt of Aachen is usually not a parking lot but it is often used during wedding ceremonies taking place in the Rathaus built on the site where Charlemagne’s palace once stood. Aachen suffered much damage during the Second World War, which partly explain some of the disappointingly bland modern buildings in the town center.
