The World of Banksy — The Immersive Experience changed from a special temporary art exhibition in the Montmartre neighborhood of Paris to a permanent Banksy Museum. The Banksy Museum exhibits copies of over a hundred works by the British stencil graffiti street artist Banksy. The expo is hugely popular making it sensible to buy tickets online to skip the long ticket window queues.

The World of Banksy — The Immersive Experience in Paris

The World of Banksy — The Immersive Experience is a must-see contemporary art exhibition in Paris showing works by arguably the most famous living political graffiti artist in the world. The exhibition is in the Espace Lafayette Drouot — an old three-level underground car park successfully repurposed as a street art venue in the traditionally bohemian Montmartre neighborhood of Paris.

Around a hundred works are on display. Half of these are smaller works mostly on paper that are displayed behind glass. These works are mostly held by private owners but as with many works associated with Banksy, authenticity is hard to prove. Works are not signed but rather stamped with Banksy.

The rest is large copies of famous stencil works sprayed by Banksy on walls and urban surfaces around the world. These were reproduced by local graffiti artists to closely resemble the originals.

Some of the famous Banksy works reproduced in the Paris exhibition include Kissing Coppers, Turf War (Churchill with a green mohawk), Gansta Rat (unsigned print), No Ball Game, and the little girl painting over a swastika (painted in Paris following the Bataclan attack in 2015).

The Walled-Off Hotel that Banksy created in Bethlehem in 2017 was reproduced in Paris next to the exhibition venue and may be visited separately.

As the identity of Banksy remains secret — he was presumably born in Bristol, UK, around 1974 — he neither supports, nor directly benefits from this exhibition, or any items sold in the gift shop.

Where is the Banksy Museum Paris Exhibition?

The Banksy Museum Paris (previously World of Banksy — The Immersive Experience) is in the Espace Lafayette Drouot at 44 Rue du Faubourg in the Montmartre district in the ninth arrondissement to the north of the center of Paris. The exhibition space is in a former parking garage, which kind of emphasizes that using public transportation is the best way to visit.

The closest metro stop is Le Pelletier on line 7. Buses 26, 43, and 45 connect to Gare du Nord in a few minutes. Bus 45 is also handy for Opera and Concorde.

While Banksy is world-famous, anonymous graffiti and street art have a long tradition in Paris. A variety of street art tours are available for travelers keen to visit such public art scenes in non-traditional tourist areas of the city.

In Amsterdam, MOCO Amsterdam Modern and Contemporary Art Museum on Museumplein near the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum also has a very popular Banksy Exhibition.
