Altars in the St Wolfgangskirche in Rothenburg

May 13, 2020 by Henk Bekker

Altars of the St Wolfgangskirche in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

The St Wolfgangskirche in Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a late Gothic church. The interior is fairly simple with three altars the main artworks on display. Left the Marienaltar, right the Wendelinaltar, and center the Wolfgangsaltar. All three were produced around 1500 with Wilhelm Ziegler responsible for the paintings but the sculptor is unknown. It is often attributed to the workshop or students of Riemenschneider but clearly not by the master carver himself.
