Triumph of Death Fresco in the Camposanto in Pisa

The Triumph of Death was painted after the black plague hit Pisa.

Death flies in the center, ready to hit the nobles enjoying a garden party? Below Death are some who already dies including a king, a queen, a bishop, priests, and monks. Angels and demons immediately claim the souls of the departed, in some cases fighting over them while flying through the sky.

The royal procession (bottom left) unexpectedly came upon three coffins. Above them, monks live serenely, seemingly unaware of the souls of the wicked being fed directly into the fires of hell.
