The mosaic of the palace of Theodoric the Great is another famous scene in the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna. After Justinian took control of Ravenna, references to Arianism and Theodoric the Great were removed from many public buildings. The original figures of Theodoric the Great and his entourage were over tiled by curtains. However, note the hands that can still be seen on some of the pillars – especially clear on the pillar third from the left.
