Huge flags fly on the front of the Gouda stadhuis to provide color in addition to the red and white shutters. The red flag is for the Dutch Republic (1650-1815), the yellow for the County of Holland (1198 to the present) and the blue flag for the Kingdom of The Netherlands (1815 to present).
