Baptism of Christ, Müstair

Romanesque high relief showing the baptism of Christ, Müstair

This Romanesque high relief was only attached to the north wall of the church in Müstair during the Gothic period. It shows St John the Baptist baptising Jesus Christ – an event of more importance to Christianity than the more famous beheading of St John at the feast of Herod – graphically illustrated in the central apse of the church.
