Model of the Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears) in Berlin

The Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears) was the departure hall at Friedrichstraße station for travelers departing from East Germany to West Berlin during much of the Cold War.

This model in the free museum inside the Tränenpalast shows the Friedrichstraße train station with its special controls with the Tränenpalast the small structure immediately to its right. During the Cold War, the departure hall was linked by passage way to the station.
