Getting to the archaeological site of Herculaneum using public transportation (very cheap trains) or car is easy while many guided day-trip tour buses arrive from Naples, Sorrento, and even Rome.

The excavations of Herculaneum and the excavations of Pompeii are justifiable among the most-popular day-trip tour destinations in Italy. The best original artworks, frescoes and mosaics from Pompeii and Herculaneum were removed and are on display in the National Museum of Archaeology in Naples (copies are mostly in place of the originals at the archaeological sites). The Campania Arte Card is fantastic savings deal that cover public transportation in the Naples region – including the Circumvesuviana commuter train from Naples Garibaldi station to Ercolano (for Herculaneum) and Pompei-Scavi Villa dei Misteri station (for the excavations of Pompeii), as well as the metro in Naples.
