Vincent van Gogh’s Landscapes Paintings Special Exhibition in the Kunstmuseum, Basel will be one of the greatest temporary art gallery shows in Europe 2009.
The Vincent van Gogh – Between Earth and Heaven: the Landscapes will be one of the best temporary art collections in Europe in 2009. The Kunstmuseum Basel (Art Museum) will host the Vincent van Gogh – Zwischen Erde und Himmel: Die Landschaften exhibition from April 26 to September 27, 2009. On display will be 70 Vincent van Gogh landscape paintings as well as more landscape paintings by Van Gogh’s contemporaries including French Impressionist and Fauvist painters.

The Kunstmuseum Basel’s Vincent van Gogh – Between Earth and Heaven: the Landscapes exhibition will be the most complete collection of Van Gogh landscape paintings ever. No less than 70 Van Gogh paintings will be on display covering the complete spectrum of landscape paintings done by the Dutch impressionist artist.
Van Gogh landscape paintings from museums and private collections from all over the world will be on display in Basel. These landscape paintings range from town to countryside scenes, vineyards, gardens, flower bulb fields, trees, river scenes, and the sea.
Covering the complete vista of Van Gogh’s landscape paintings from his early years in Holland to his later works in France, the changes in Van Gogh’s style and especially the use of colors can be appreciated.

The Vincent van Gogh – Zwischen Erde und Himmel: Die Landschaften exhibition will be enhanced by landscape paintings of Van Gogh’s contemporaries in the Kunstmuseum Basel. The Kunstmuseum (Art Museum) Basel has one of the best collections in Switzerland and has a wealth of paintings to display. Works on display will include landscape paintings from amongst others Camille Corot, Edouard Manet, Degas, Claude Monet, Paul Signac, Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne, and Henri Matisse.

The Vincent van Gogh – Between Earth and Heaven: the Landscapes will be held from April 26 to September 27, 2009 in the Kunstmuseum Basel, Switzerland.
The Basel Art Museum is located at the edge of the old town at St. Alban-Graben 16 – use tram 2 (stop Kunstmuseum) from the Basel Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station).
The Vincent van Gogh – Zwischen Erde und Himmel: Die Landschaften exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 7 pm (last admission 6 pm). (Group visits are possible at night as well.)

Not surprisingly, an exhibition of this magnitude of Vincent van Gogh paintings requires special admission procedures and of course higher prices. However, the Kunstmuseum Basel is doing a very decent job to make visiting the Van Gogh landscape paintings exhibition easy.
Ticket prices for the Van Gogh exhibition are CHF28 (US$24 / €18) for adults, CHF18 for students up to 30, and CHF10 for adolescents 13 to 18. Children up to 12 and school classes enter gratis but need reservations too. Audio guides are CHF5.
Admission to the Van Gogh landscapes paintings exhibition will be only on time-restricted tickets. Visitors have to enter the museum according to the time stamped on the ticket but may stay inside the museum until closing time if desired. Avoiding weekends and school holidays will generally be sensible although presently tickets are fairly easily available even on Sundays.
Tickets may be bought online, at the museum, at larger Manor shops, and through some hotels in Basel. Rather uniquely, advance reservations for Kunstmuseum Basel tickets have no surcharges. Buying online is sensible but do note that student tickets are not available online. Adult, as well as children tickets (under 12 and 12 to 18) are available online.
Traveling to Basel
Basel is in the far north of Switzerland right at the border with Germany and France. Basel has excellent transportation connections to the rest of Europe. Highways and autobahns go from Basel to the rest of Switzerland, France (Alsace), and Germany (Black Forest). Similarly, excellent railway connections – both TGV and ICE trains – are running from Basel to other European cities. EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL) has cheap flights on low-cost airlines to many European cities and is very easily reached from downtown Basel. Some hotels in Basel may offer special deals and admission tickets for the Van Gogh exhibition.
