Reservations are essential to see The Last Supper painting by Leonardo da Vinci in Milan — buying timed-entry tickets online in advance is the cheapest and simplest way to secure admission. If museum tickets are sold out, guided tours may still be available.

Time-slot reservations are mandatory to see Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting in the former Dominican refectory beside Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Only 40 visitors per time slot are allowed to spend a maximum of 15 minutes viewing the painting. Guided tours of The Last Supper are pricey, but the best way to ensure admission once the ticket-only option is sold out. Occasionally, early morning tours limited to six participants are available.
Latest on Buying Tickets for The Last Supper in Milan in 2026

Tickets to see The Last Supper Museum (Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano) in Milan without a tour guide are currently on sale for July, August, September, October, November, and December 2026.
The Last Supper Museum tickets sell out on most days. Book as far in advance as possible, especially for July, August, Christmas holidays, and all weekends.
It is not possible to buy tickets for visits later than the calendar months shown on the official website. Guided tours can be booked months in advance.
On 12 July 2026, all entry-only tickets until mid-November were already sold out. Tickets were still available for many days in December, while tickets for the official tours (in English or Italian) were still available for most days from late October until the Christmas holidays.
Currently, a limited number of additional individual tickets are released online every Wednesday at noon for visits during the following week.
At peak periods, especially summer and school holidays, even private guided tours sell out. A search with specific dates is a good start. An early morning six-person group tour saves time, but regular tours or combinations with a town walk or the Duomo offer better value.
How to Buy Skip-the-Line Tickets Online for The Last Supper in 2026
The cheapest way to buy tickets for The Last Supper is through the official booking platform linked from the Cenacolo Vinciano website. The official site is a bit old-fashioned and confusing. English is available, but depending on the browser may be less easy to find.
Official tickets sold out?
Check the separate calendar for the museum’s own English and Italian guided tours before paying for a private tour. While ticket-only dates often sell out quickly, many of the official guided tour dates may still be available (at far lower prices than private tours).
When reserving time slots, enter the name of the person who will use the ticket, rather than the name of the buyer (or credit card holder). Name changes are not allowed, and tickets cannot be modified or refunded. (Minor spelling errors are usually not a problem.)
It is only possible to buy a maximum of 5 tickets online in a single transaction (or up to nine tickets via the call center).
Online tickets are attached to the booking email but must be validated in person at least 30 minutes before the tour time.
Limited storage is available at The Last Supper Museum, but only for small bags. Book luggage storage in Milan in advance for large bags. Locations near major transportation hubs are usually the more convenient options.

When Are The Last Supper Tickets Going on Sale?

Online tickets for The Last Supper Museum go on sale a few months in advance. The official website lists the dates for which ticket sales are already in progress. Private tours may be booked many months in advance.
Time slots are usually released in batches covering around three or four months. The exact release date and the number of months included vary. The museum generally announces the next sales opening a week or two beforehand.
Tickets for The Last Supper sell out even on regular, low-season days. High season is even worse: for example, within a week of May, June, and July, tickets going on sale in March 2025, only a few weekdays in July had any open slots left. Similarly, ticket-only admissions for the remainder of 2025 sold out a day after their release in late September 2025. In 2026, booking tickets remains difficult despite a small increase in visitor capacity.
Guided tours of The Last Supper are bookable in advance for dates when individual tickets are not yet available or are already sold out. However, in the busy months, even tours sell out. It may be necessary to compare various providers — prices tend to go up as more slots are booked.
Alternative Options for Buying Tickets for The Last Supper in 2026
Options to consider when online tickets for The Last Supper Museum have sold out:
- Additional individual Last Supper tickets are released online every Wednesday at noon for visits during the following week. These tickets are available online only and are in limited supply. As with free Sundays, treat these tickets as a useful last-minute possibility, rather than a reliable travel-planning strategy.
- Splitting up a group or couple may make it possible to secure the last available tickets in different time slots.
- Note that official guided-tour times are now on a separate calendar from tickets-only! These often sell more slowly but still sell out for most slots. (The €10 surcharge is cheap compared to the price of private tours.)
- Check the website again closer to the time of the visit. Tickets may be returned and may become available at short notice. (Buy immediately!)
- Enquire at the ticket window in person. While it is not possible to queue up for tickets, cancellations by tour operators may occasionally free up reservation slots for later the same day. A sign outside may already confirm that no cancellations were made. It is valid for the full calendar day, and additional tickets are not added at the last minute. The ticket office does not sell tickets for future dates.
- Book a group tour. It will cost considerably more than an official ticket but may still be available at fairly short notice, although usually not for same-day booking.
It is still possible to buy tickets by phone, but the call center may have less availability than the website. (Dial +39 0292800360 or 800990048 when calling from inside Italy.)
Admission is free on the first Sunday of the month. The free Last Supper Museum tickets are only available online from noon the preceding Wednesday (and are booked in about 20 minutes). (A great option if successful, as the number of visitors is the same as on any other day.)
Book Guided Tours of The Last Supper Museum in Milan
It is possible to see The Last Supper as part of a group guided tour. Several options are available — the cheapest or shortest tours are not necessarily the best value:
The cheapest options are guided tours of The Last Supper Museum only, which last around an hour — 15 minutes with the painting. Much of the remaining time is taken up by validating tickets, organizing the group, and distributing audio equipment.
These express tours are basically a simple walkthrough and guided description of The Last Supper. It usually adds some value, but for many, the only real reason to use these tours is to ensure admission on a specific day when the official tickets are sold out (unfortunately, often).
Many tour operators offer these tours, but availability differs quite a lot. A search with specific dates is a good start. There is not much variety in prices or what is included in these short tours. Compare final prices before booking — prominently advertised low-price tours are sometimes only available months later.
In the high season, it is a seller’s market, and prices go up dramatically. Sometimes, tours adding further sights in Milan, such as the Duomo or guided town walks, are cheaper and offer better value.
Occasionally, early morning tours limited to six participants are available. These sell out fast despite the price — the small group reduces the time needed to organize the tour, but note that although the tour group will be six, there may still be up to 40 visitors in the refectory during the same time slot.
Save with Last Supper and Milan Sights Combination Tours
Longer tours adding further sites may offer more value for money and often are available in higher numbers and on more dates than short Last Supper-only tours. (Some are even cheaper than the Last Supper-only tours!)
Walking tours (some including the Duomo) are quite popular, as many meet at more convenient central locations and spend less time waiting outside the Last Supper Museum to obtain tickets. Meeting in central Milan may also simplify transportation.
Other sights commonly included in combination tours are the adjacent Santa Maria delle Grazie church (admission to the church itself is free), the nearby Church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore, sometimes called the “Sistine Chapel” of Milan, skip-the-line access to the Duomo (cathedral), La Scala opera house and museum, further art treasures, and Da Vinci sights such as the Codex Atlanticus in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. (Leonardo’s vineyard is no longer open to the public.)
Read the fine print before booking, as some tours are only a guided talk, leaving visitors to explore the final sights on their own. Also, transportation other than walking is often not included in these tours. (Walking is mostly the easiest way to get around in central Milan.)
Tips When Visiting The Last Supper Museum in 2026
Access to Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting on a wall in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie church, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is strictly controlled. Visitor numbers are limited to only 40 people at any given time for a maximum of 15 minutes. Returning is not possible.
The 15-minute limit applies to all visitors irrespective of how the ticket was purchased. The limit is very strictly enforced. Enter promptly when instructed, as the 15-minute viewing period cannot be extended. 15 minutes is short, although some visitors spend less time than that in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.
On the opposite wall of Leonardo’s Last Supper masterpiece is the huge fresco of The Crucifixion (1495) by Giovanni Donato da Montorfano, painted on wet plaster. At least give it a glance on the way out — Leonardo possibly painted the faded figures in the corners.
Arrive on time. Present your digital or printed ticket and identification at the ticket office for validation at least 30 minutes before admission, then be at the museum entrance at least 15 minutes before the time shown on the ticket. Bags must be placed in lockers before entering the refectory. Photography is permitted without flash or a tripod. Food and drinks, including water, are prohibited inside the museum.
For private tours, arrive even earlier if necessary, as locating the correct guide can sometimes take time.
The Last Supper Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:15 to 19:00, with last admission at 18:45, although visitors primarily need to pay attention to their reserved 15-minute time slot.
Modest dress is advisable, especially if visiting any of the nearby churches with wonderful free art.

Ticket Prices for The Last Supper Museum in 2026
Admission tickets for seeing the Last Supper Museum in Milan without a guide are €15, including the advance reservation fees. Admission is free for all children under 18 and €2 for young European Union and EEA nationals (18 to 25). All visitors, including babies, need a ticket.
Time slots during which the official guided tour is given add €10 to the admission ticket (including for visitors using reduced or free tickets). It is not possible to visit at these times without paying for the tour. The tour is good value for money and a fraction of the price of other tours arranged by private companies.
Admission is free on the first Sunday of the month. Free entry tickets are available only online from noon on the preceding Wednesday. It is not possible to change names on tickets. (In a change to previous practice, telephone bookings are no longer possible for free Sundays.) In contrast to many other free sights, there is no reason to avoid The Last Supper Museum on a free Sunday. The number of visitors allowed in at any given time is the same as on regular days. (Reservations are extremely difficult to secure, but it is worth trying when the date suits your plans.)
