Flying to Nuremberg Airport (NUE) is the easiest way to travel to the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt, Germany’s most famous Christmas market (Weihnachstmarkt).
Cheap flights on Ryanair, Air Berlin and other airlines to Nuremberg Airport (NUE) are the best way to travel to the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt in Bavaria. The Nuremberg Christmas market is not the biggest or oldest Weihnachtsmarkt in Germany but it is arguably the most famous and the most popular German Christmas market amongst foreign visitors.
Transportation from Nuremberg Airport (NUE) to downtown Nürnberg is exceptionally easy by public transportation. My Driver gives online quotations for private airport transfers without first requiring personal details or flight numbers but most visitors find the U-Bahn train (metro / subway) easy and much cheaper.
In 2016, the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt (Nuremberg’s Christmas Market) will be open from November 25 to December 24. Market hours are generally from 9:30 am to 8 pm (10 pm on Friday and Saturday), and closing at 2 pm on Christmas Eve.
Fly Ryanair to Nuremberg Airport (NUE)
Ryanair is currently the only airline offering direct flights from the British Isles to Nuremberg in Bavaria. Ryanair has a daily flight from London-Stansted (STN) to Nuremberg Airport and from November 2016 also flights from Manchester to Nuremberg. Cheap deals are often available but prices are sure to rise closer to Christmas and especially for travel over advent weekends. Ryanair may not be the most comfortable but a direct flight sure is more pleasurable than having to transfer or using the train from Munich of Frankfurt airports.
Fly Air Berlin to the Nürnberg Christmas Market
Low-cost airline Air Berlin (AB) is Germany’s second largest airline and use Nuremberg Airport (NUE) as a major hub. As a result, cheap flights are available to Nuremberg from many airports in Germany and Europe.
Airberlin flies several times per day non-stop to Nuremberg Airport (NUE) from amongst others Berlin-Tegel (TXL), Düsseldorf (DUS), Hamburg (HAM), Palma de Mallorca (PMI), and Vienna / Wien (VIE).
Air Berlin, in contrast to most low-cost airlines, allow for guaranteed connection flights. As a result, it is possible to reach Nürnberg from virtually any destination served by Air Berlin flights.
From Britain, it is no longer possible to reach Nuremberg on non-stop flights (apart from Ryanair). However, Air Berlin has several option available for transfers in Dusseldorf, Berlin or Hamburg when flying to Nuremberg.
Fly Lufthansa to Nuremberg Airport (NUE) and the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt
Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline, has non-stop flights to Nuremberg Airport from Frankfurt (FRA), Berlin-Tegel (TXL), Düsseldorf (DUS), Hamburg (HAM), Munich / München (MUC), and Zurich (ZRH on Swiss). These flights are mostly used by connecting passengers on long-distance flights from Lufthansa’s hubs in Germany but are of course also most useful for travelers to the Nuremberg Christmas market.
Connecting flights on Lufthansa (and subsidiaries Austrian, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss) are available to Nuremberg on 397 different routings from all over the world.
Travelers arriving at Frankfurt Airport on Lufthansa, and some other airlines, can also use the Rail&Fly deal to continue the journey to Nuremberg by train.
Non-Stop Flights to Nuremberg Airport from Other European Airports
Several major carriers have non-stop flights to Nuremberg Airport. These flights are particularly useful for intercontinental travelers who may add the European flight onto a long-distance flight at the fraction of the normal the European flight cost. This allows travelers from all over the world to reach Nürnberg through non-German hubs as well.

The best alternative airport to Nuremberg Airport is Munich Airport (MUC) with its huge number of European flights and Frankfurt International Airport with its unrivaled intercontinental connections. Nuremberg is also easily reached by train or car from most parts of Europe.
Nuremberg hotels are generally less pricey than those in Frankfurt or Munich but early reservations are recommended and prices tend to stay high during the pre-Christmas advent season.
